A friend told me he wants to talk. About how angry he gets when he isn't getting what he wants. Ya know, we all do that. So we had two minutes. And I told him what I learned yesterday. Today, I decided to write it down, because I forget what I learn way to quickly.
Here's the short version: I feel angry because I feel impotent, which comes from feeling like someone is not giving me what I want. But they didn't take my power away. It just feels like that.
My aha moment: be more circumspect about what I accommodate. I want to be accommodating, but I can't give what I can't give. Tolerance is great. But if I feel angry, maybe something I am "tolerating" is contrary to my "core" or who I am, or what I want. What I maybe need.
"Slow down. Think carefully about what you give of yourself", I say to myself. "Can you afford to give that away?"
Or do I have a deeper reason for giving too much away, and in the words of a good friend: "How is that working for me"? hmmmmm
